Privacy Policy

We practise the data sovereignty we advocate. Here is how we handle your information.

1. Who we are

Domus Communis Foundation ("DCF", "we", "us") is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN: 99-1778616) operating as a global constellation of nonprofits. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you visit this website or interact with the Foundation.

DCF champions data sovereignty. We hold ourselves to the same principle we advocate: your data belongs to you. We collect only what is necessary, we never sell personal information, and we do not use your data for automated profiling or advertising.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide directly: when you contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, register for an event, or make a donation, we may collect your name, email address, organization, and any details you choose to share in your message.

Information collected automatically: we collect basic, anonymised analytics (such as pages visited, approximate region, and device type) to understand how the site is used and to improve it. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

3. How we use your information

We use your information solely to: respond to your enquiries; send you updates about the Foundation’s work if you have opted in; process and acknowledge donations, including issuing tax receipts; organize events you have registered for; and improve this website.

We rely on your consent (for newsletters), the performance of our engagement with you (for enquiries, events, and donations), and our legitimate interest in operating the Foundation (for analytics and security) as the legal bases for processing.

4. How we share it

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We share data only with trusted service providers who help us operate the website and the Foundation (such as hosting, email delivery, and payment processing), and only to the extent necessary for them to perform those services. These providers are bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.

We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of the Foundation and its community.

5. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described above. Enquiry correspondence is retained while the conversation is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Donation records are retained as required by tax and accounting law. Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe.

6. Your rights

You may at any time request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data; object to or restrict its processing; withdraw consent; or request a copy of your data in a portable format. Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under GDPR and certain US states), these rights may be protected by law.

To exercise any of these rights, please reach out through our contact page. We will respond as promptly as possible, and in any case within the timeframe required by applicable law.

7. Cookies and analytics

We use only essential cookies and privacy-respecting analytics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser without losing access to the core content of this site.

8. Security

This site is served over HTTPS. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we minimize risk by collecting as little data as possible in the first place.

9. International transfers

DCF operates as a global constellation of nonprofits, and our service providers may process data in the United States or other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection consistent with this policy and applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the date of the latest revision shown below. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.

11. Contact
